This is Maya. She loves animals and has lots of pets. She has two cats, four goldfish, a hamster, a bearded
dragon, a dog and a parakeet. Today, she brought her favorite teddy bear Barack to school for show and tell. She loved telling her class about her dreams of becoming a veterinarian one day and Barack is her favorite practice patient.

She's wearing her favorite dress, tights and shoes and a starfish necklace. Black girls who dream big dreams grow up with big life goals. They can be anything they choose to be.

The little guy has chosen his name and it's Archie. He also has an African name but he'll tell us that later. He's practicing his big speech on his sister,  grandma and mom. They are listening to him intently and are so proud at how this young man is growing up.

Previewing some new elements for a new doll. She will be an African dancer.

I couldn't wait to share. She's all done except her hair will be a little shorter after she gets a final trim. I think she's one of my favorite dolls that I've ever made. I'll have a hard time giving her up to her new mom. Because she is a custom doll there are so many little details from the beautiful gold ruffled collar, to her 'designer' gold shoes, her painted nails, beaded clutch and jewelry she is one if my best works. Hoping her new mom  will love her too. There's a lot of me in this little woman. Almost finished with doll #1 too.

Finished Work In Progress

She's all done. I love the way she turned out. I may give her a prop or an accessory. I have to decide what it should be. She told me her name is Bahati which means lucky or fortunate.

 Sleepy Goddess Dolls

Blue Goddess

This little sleepy doll has
a peaceful dreamy little
face. She comes with a
doll stand so that she
can be displayed on a
shelf or mantle or
she can be hung on
a wall or door or
she would also be
happy nestled among
the pillows on your
bed or sofa.
she is
about 22" tall has
curly yarn hair and
a handpainted face.
Her skirt and bodice
are a pretty navy blue
and pastel Indonesian
batik and she wears a
bead necklace.

WORK IN PROGRESS

This is my current work in progress. I haven't done this doll design in several months and I forgot how much I love creating this style.

She will get more jewelry and her head will be wrapped in the beautiful blue fabric shown below.

I think her little blouse should be shortened so that her skirt will hang better. It was almost half the length of the skirt which makes it look a little "bunchy". She will be one of my faceless dolls which are my most popular dolls. I think it's because they become more decorative and more of an art piece.

Adopted Doll

These little dolls were donated as a fundraiser for PACT Parents and Children Together. The little girl was one of the winners and she took her little one home. Dolls of color are so important for little girls of color. They promote positive image and are dolls that little girls can identify with.
